UPPITY WIMMIN' QUILT GUILD HOLDS FIRST QUILT SHOW

The Uppity Wimmin' Quilt Guild of Dexter recently held their first quilt show at the Gathering Place in Dexter.
A good number of quilts were displayed in the beautiful back yard of the Gathering Place.
Several were voted on for the peoples choice awad and the winner was Jeanne McLemore, tying for second place in the peoples choice award was Shirloy Sexton and Donita Pettigrew. Creek Water Fabrics gave certificates to the winners.
There were several variations of quilts entered, including a "stack -n-wack" and a "red work quilt".
This type of quilt is one that was popular in the late 1930s, also included in the quilt show were a variation of "Ohio Star" and "Jacobs Ladder",, which is also known as a "railroad quilt".
Several antique quilts were displayed, with one being hand embroidered and hand quilted with tea towels.
Donita Pettigrew had several of her quilted bags in the show as well as for sale.
There were several hand quilted along with hand tied quilts entered, some of the quilts were machine stitched by Sue Crow of Dexter, owner of The Crows Nest Machine quilting shop.
Judi McGill, one of the Uppity Wimmin' and owner of Creek Water Fabrics, deemed the show a great success and is looking forward to next years show.
Several visitors came to see the quilt show and all had compliments and good things to say about the first ever, Uppity Wimmin' Quilt Guild Quilt Show.
Creek Water Fabrics can be found in Dexter at 216 S Maple, just south of the Christian Church, Everyone is invited to take the beautiful drive to the southern part of the flinthills in the Grouse Creek Valley and stop in a chat awhile and see what Creek Water Fabrics and the pretty little town of Dexter has to offer.
